The first project I worked on when joining Double Negative was 2012. Dneg worked on the Yellowstone Volcano sequence and I focused on the ground cracking / earthquake effects. For this we were using Maya and Dneg’s in-house voronoi fracturing toolkit as well as their ODE Rigid-Body solver Dynamite. We built a lot of scripts to generate the crack patterns controllable by curve contour lines, and to control the timing of multiple stages of activation.
